I've always found gold to be kind of tacky. It can be gaudy, or too yellow and flashy. But in the past few years I have discovered a new love for it.
As soon as Justin and I confirmed that we'd be hosting Thanksgiving this year, I knew I wanted to start collecting mixed and matched dish ware for the occasion. I envisioned a table setting with dishes both elaborate and simple, including the basic holiday essentials: gravy bowls, plates and platters, all with gold trim.
Over the past few months we have spent our weekends exploring local vintage and junk shops in Brooklyn, and with nearly each place we visited, a new piece was added to our holiday collection. One of our favorites (and the tackiest of them all) is this cream and gold platter with a thick trim and all kinds of yellow-gold florals.
If you are in the need of holiday settings for a small or large group of people, but don't want to break the bank by purchasing a matching set you'll use many twice a year, pay a visit to your local thrift shops, vintage stores, fleas or even garage sales. You never know what you will pick up. It's fun and rewarding. And our whole set came to about $150!
